NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore Sara Im carded a career best 6-under-par 66 on Saturday to move into a tie for first place individually at the Mason Rudolph Championship. Vanderbilt’s women ended Saturday’s second round with a 5-under team score. The Commodores sit in seventh place at 11-under par and 18 holes left to play.
“What a round of golf by Sara Im!” said head coach Greg Allen. “She was in complete control of every part of her game today and absolutely carried us.”
Im’s 6-under score is her best at Vanderbilt by three shots. She holed seven birdies on the day to move her weekend total to 9-under. The sophomore now vies for an individual win on Sunday, something a Commodore has not done at the Mason Rudolph Championship since Abbey Carlson brought home the title in 2018.
Ava Merrill and Tillie Claggett both finished Saturday’s round at even par. Angelina Tolentino was 1-over at 73 and Lynn Lim shot a 76.
“We really had it rolling through 12 holes, but for some reason, we struggled with the last 4-5 holes again,” said Allen. “I honestly think we’re trying to force it rather than just letting it happen.”
The Commodores sit in the middle of a packed field, 10 strokes off the lead but just six shots out of second place.
Five Vanderbilt golfers are competing as individuals this weekend. Charlene Chung led the way for these Dores by shooting a 1-under second round. Claire Henson notched an even par round. Macie Brown shot a 74, Jayden Jevnick an 81 and Meghan Meserole an 83.
“We’re excited about the opportunity before us tomorrow and we know we have a chance to go out early and post a great round and then see what happens,” said Allen.
Vanderbilt will tee off with Arizona State and Baylor at 8 a.m. CT for Sunday’s final round.
