FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Vanderbilt women’s golf sits in third place after the opening 18 holes Friday at the Mason Rudolph Championship presented by Simmons Bank at the Vanderbilt Legends Club .The Commodores finished the first round with a combined 8-under-par 280 team score. Auburn is in first place at 14-under par.
“Although we made a few silly course management mistakes, I was proud of the fight and the patience we showed throughout the day,” said head coach Greg Allen.
Sophomore Lynn Lim lead the way for the Dores on Friday, finishing with a 4-under par 68 that included four birdies on the back nine. She is currently tied for sixth place individually.
“I thought today was a really solid start and a great team effort,” said Allen. “It was nice to see Lynn, Celina and Tillie under par.”
Graduate student Celina Sattelkau carded a 3-under-par 69 that consisted of fifteen pars—the most of the tournament by an individual so far—and zero bogeys, leaving her tied for eighth place. Sophomore Tillie Claggett notched a 2-under-par 70 round, and Virginie Ding and Ava Merrill both tacked on 73s.
Sara Im led the four Commodores competing individually after ending the first day at 2-under par 70, Charlene Chung shot a 73, Macie Brown recorded a 75, and Meghan Meserole finished the opening round with an 82.
The Commodores currently sit with a one-stroke lead on South Carolina and are three strokes behind Arizona State heading into Saturday’s second round.
“There’s a lot of golf to be played over the weekend and we just need to keep doing our thing,” said Allen.
