NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s and women’s cross country is set to host its annual Commodore Classic at Percy Warner Park on Friday.
The men’s 8-kilometer race gets things started at 8:30 a.m. followed by the women’s 5k race at 9:15 a.m. Admission is free for spectators.
Vanderbilt will welcome 12 schools to its corner of the Music City including Austin Peay, Belmont, Central Arkansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Missouri, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and Western Kentucky.
Vanderbilt will be represented by Jonah Bird, Matthew Estopinal, Zach Hodges, Nick Laning, Philip Metcalf, Mathew Ragsdale, Max Beck and Caleb Van Geffen, while the women’s squad will feature Joslin Blair, Gigi Clifford, Caroline Eck, Cameron Fawcett, Jenna Holland, Grace Jensen, Ella Lambert, Gillian Mortimer, Lainey Phelps, Jacque Pinon, Julia Rosenberg, Haley Walker and McKenzie Yanek.
The Commodores opened the season on Sept. 3 and finished fourth in the men’s race and third in the women’s race at the Mizzou Opener. In the men’s 6-kilometer race at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, Vanderbilt totaled 103 points behind Estopinal’s 15th-place finish of 18:19.7 while the women were led by Jensen’s eighth-place showing (17:21.7) and finished with 74 points in their 5k race. Last year at the Commodore Classic, the men, who were led by junior Nick Laning, finished third, while the women were paced by junior Grace Jensen and finished fourth. A full recap is here.
