NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt center Bree Horrocks will miss the start to the 2018-19 basketball season as she deals with health matters related to blood clots, head coach Stephanie White announced today.
White said Horrocks, a redshirt senior from Buford, Ga., will miss an indeterminate amount of time but is hopeful to return this season.
“We will miss Bree as we begin this season, but Vanderbilt’s priority, first and foremost, is Bree’s health,” White said. “Bree is a veteran presence on our roster who brings such experience to practice every day. We hope to welcome her back healthy at some point this season.”
Horrocks, who arrived at Vanderbilt as a graduate transfer from Purdue prior to the 2017-18 season, appeared in 20 games in 2017-18 with one start. The 6-5 Buford, Ga. native averaged 1.5 points and 0.5 rebounds per game last season.
“I am looking forward to being back and contributing to my team in my last year,” Horrocks said. “I had a great offseason but unexpected things happen to everyone at any stage of life. It’s important for me to be cautious in this circumstance and I’m thankful to be part of a program that understands.”
White said the Commodores will miss a valuable inside presence without Horrocks in uniform. “I was so proud of Bree because she did a great job getting ready for the season. She was on schedule to impact our program and I think still will when she returns,” the coach said.
The Commodores will open the 2018-19 season with an exhibition game against the University of Indianapolis on Sunday, Oct. 28. The game will tip in Memorial Gym at 2 p.m.
Vanderbilt’s regular season opener is scheduled Tuesday, Nov. 6 when North Alabama visits Memorial Gym.
