Holiday weekend with the Commodores

Nov. 22, 2011

Thanksgiving is just two days away and many have made or are in the process of making their holiday plans for the long weekend.

If you are looking for entertainment, Vanderbilt will be serving up a full platter of it this week. Here is the rundown:

Tuesday
Vanderbilt’s undefeated women’s basketball team (3-0) will host Sam Houston State (2-0) at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym on Tuesday. Tickets cost just $7 and can be purchased at the Memorial Gym ticket window or by calling 615-322-GOLD (4653). You may also purchase the tickets online by clicking here.

Friday
Holiday hoops will be in full effect on Friday when Memorial Gym hosts three games. The first two games of the day will be part of the annual women’s basketball Thanksgiving Tournament. Vanderbilt is 24-0 all-time in the Thanksgiving Tournament, but it will receive quite a test this year with arguably the strongest field in the history of the tournament.

Vanderbilt will open the tournament at 2 p.m. against cross-town foe Lipscomb. In the second game of the tournament, 12th-ranked Oklahoma will play Liberty at 4 p.m. Admission is FREE to each game of the tournament.

In the nightcap, Vanderbilt’s men’s team will host Monmouth at 9 p.m. at Memorial Gym. The Commodores are coming off a dramatic win over Oregon State to claim the TicketCity Legends Classic on Monday. Friday’s game will also mark the return of former assistant King Rice, who is in his first season as head coach at Monmouth. This will be the first of just five games this season in which single game tickets are available. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased online or by calling 615-322-GOLD (4653).

Saturday
The consolation and championship games of the Thanksgiving Tournament will be played on Saturday. The consolation will be played at 2 p.m. and the championship will be at 4 p.m. Admission is FREE to either game.

Those looking to take a road trip or live in the vicinity of Winston Salem, N.C., can still purchase tickets to watch Vanderbilt’s football team play at Wake Forest on Saturday. The game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. and will air on ESPNU. Vanderbilt is 5-6 overall, while Wake Forest is 6-5 this season. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Vanderbilt ticket office at 615-322-GOLD (4653). The cost of the tickets are $25.
