SMYRNA, Tenn. — No. 2 Vanderbilt scored 1,000-plus pins in all five of its day 2 matches to earn the No. 3 seed heading into bracket play at the Music City Classic.
“I felt like the shot making was more important today than it was yesterday,” head coach John Williamson said. “Scores weren’t as high across the field, but I think we were still able to execute at a high level. I thought that we adjusted well and didn’t let what happened yesterday roll over into today, which is sometimes a very hard thing to do. I thought Sydney Bohn came in and played very well for the last four games. It was good to see her be able to come in and do that.”
Katelyn Abigania led the Commodores with scores of 205, 266, 215, 228 and 211, earning a third-place finish on the individual leaderboard. Sydney Bohn came off the bench in game 2 and posted scores of 224, 200, 206 and 253 for a 220.75 game average.
The Dores’ day started with a 1,004-923 win over 14th-ranked Sam Houston State. Dannielle Henderson led the way for Vandy with a 222, followed by Haley Lindley with a 212 game and Abigania’s score of 205.
In game 2, the Commodores defeated Carroll, 1,088-1,004, powered by a 266 game from Abigania and respective scores of 235 and 224 from Avery Domaguin and Bohn.
Vandy earned its second ranked win of the day, beating No. 21 UAB by a score of 1,059-926. Henderson shot 238, while Lindley posted a score of 224.
A hot-striking Belmont Abbey team handed the Commodores their sole loss of the day, a 1,072-1,002 decision.
Four Dores bowled games over 200 pins in the final match of the day as Vanderbilt took down Fairleigh Dickinson, 1,082-865. Bohn bowled a day-high 253. Natalie Kent entered the lineup and contributed a 216 game. Abigania and Henderson earned scores of 211 and 206, respectively.
“We’re in a position to win the tournament tomorrow,” Williamson said. “We just have to play well in the bracket, and we’ll see how it goes.”
The final day of the Music City Classic gets underway Sunday at 8:55 a.m. when the Commodores face Arkansas State in the first round of bracket play.
