Final heave by Tyler Tanner rims out as Commodores fall in Round of 32

OKLAHOMA CITY –– Vanderbilt men’s basketball fell to Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 on Saturday by a score of 74-72. Tyler Tanner, who led the Commodores with 27 points, heaved a half-court shot at the buzzer that rattled in and out.

Tanner added four assists and four steals to his game-leading point total. Tyler Nickel caught fire in the second half, nailing four of his five 3-pointers. The senior finished the game with 16 points and seven rebounds. Duke Miles had nine points and six assists. AK Okereke matched Miles with nine of his own, along with seven rebounds. Vanderbilt trailed by seven at the half after a slow start in a Nebraska-heavy environment. The Commodores rallied after the break, taking the lead at the eight-minute mark. Vanderbilt and Nebraska would trade runs the rest of the way. With 58 seconds remaining, Tanner drove into the lane and sunk a layup to put the Commodores up two. Nebraska would answer and then take the lead just over two seconds before time expired.

Vanderbilt’s 2025-26 season ends with a final record of 27-9. It was the furthest the Commodores had made it in the postseason since 2012.
