Second Round Results | Video: Hahn and Gabasa
Commodore freshman Jenny Hahn continued her stellar play Wednesday at the NCAA Championship in Athens, Ga., firing a five-under par, 67, in her second 18 holes around the UGA Golf Course. Hahn’s 67 was a new career best and a new Vanderbilt NCAA Championship single-round record and ties for the lowest round for the Commodores in postseason play, which was set in the 2007 Central Regional by Jacqui Concolino.
Hahn is currently third on the individual leader board for the tournament with a six-under, 137 (71-67). She trails Alabama’s Stephanie Meadow, the individual leader, by two strokes, and second-place Annie Park of Southern Cal by one stroke.
“I was really comfortable all day,” said Hahn. “After my first birdie putt, I felt like I was on a roll, and was making everything after that. I hit the ball a lot better today than I did yesterday, and I had a lot more looks at birdie. I haven’t added it up, but I’m pretty sure I had under 30 putts today. I believe it was 26 or 27. The last three holes I one-putted, which was pretty good.”
As a team, Vanderbilt shot a one-over par, 289, and is in a tie for 10th place with San Jose State in the team standings with a total of 588 (299-289) after play was suspended due to lightning in the area. San Jose State, Northwestern, Michigan State, Arizona, UC Davis, and Auburn will have to complete their second round on Thursday morning.
The Commodores moved up five spots from Tuesday’s first round and will tee off at noon ET on Wednesday off of the 10th tee in the first group of the afternoon wave. Vanderbilt’s playing partners will not be determined until the second round is completed.
“Today was a much better day, and we were a couple scores away from really posting a low score,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “Jenny was absolutely phenomenal today in all phases of her game. Irina continues to impress me and she was a few putts away from a round in the 60s.”
Vanderbilt also counted an even-par, 72, from Irina Gabasa, and a pair of 75’s from Kendall Martindale and Lauren Stratton. Rene Sobolewski shot an eight-over, 80.
Number one-ranked Southern Cal blistered the UGA Course in the morning wave, shooting a second-round, 12-under par, 276. The Trojans currently own the team lead with a two-round total of 16-under par, 560 (284-276), twelve strokes better than second-place Alabama.
