TEMPE, Ariz. – Vanderbilt freshman Megan Grehan shot an even-par 72 on the second day of play to lead the Commodores at the ASU/Ping Invitational. Grehan has a two-round total of 144 (72-72), which is good for a tie for eighth place. As a team, Vanderbilt is in 13th place after two rounds with a score of 606 (299-307).
Other scores for the Commodores after two rounds include Liebelei Lawrence with a score of 149 (73-76, T-30), Brooke Goodwin, who is in the clubhouse with a 150 (71-79, T-36), Julie Bartholomew, who sits at 166 (83-83, T-86), and Jacqui Concolino, who carded a two-round total of 168 (88-80).
“Megan’s playing the way she thought she could play all season, and hopefully she can put a good round together Sunday and close out with a good result,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen.
Southern Cal expanded its first round lead by four strokes after ending the second round with a 569 (281-289), 11 strokes better than second-place Arizona State, who is at 580 (288-292).
Dewi Claire Schreefel of Southern Cal leads all individuals with a seven-under par 137 (68-69), three strokes better than Anna Nordqvist of Arizona State, who sits at 140 (70-70).
“The front side was very scorable,” said Allen. “We made the turn after teeing off on the back side and the winds pick up. It made it really difficult for us, and we really didn’t play well. The rough is real unforgiving here, and we had a hard time getting it in the fairway late in our round.
“We’ve got to come out tomorrow and end this thing on a good note heading into SEC’s. We’ve got a good team, with a good attitude, and we just need to keep it in the fairway tomorrow.”
The third and final round concludes on Sunday afternoon at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
