Senior women’s golfer Megan Grehan and junior Trey DelGreco of the men’s golf team were named to the 2011 SEC Golf Community Service Team by the SEC Office Monday. Both were recognized for their community service off of the golf course this academic year.
Grehan, from Mamaroneck, N.Y., participates in Read Across America, volunteers at the VA hospital on the Vanderbilt campus and the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and teaches golf in several clinics and at a local Nashville middle school. She has also worked with Sister Alice Conrad and Grace Community Church north of New York City in their food bank, Operation Stand Down and Re/Storing Nashville. Operation Stand Down is an organization that reaches out to the veteran homeless population throughout Nashville in hopes to get them off he streets. Grehan also works with Re/Storing Nashville, a Community Food Advocates project that is working to provide healthy affordable food to all people throughout Nashville, especially in low-income areas with limited access to full-service grocery stores.
DelGreco, from Birmingham, Ala., worked a Habitat for Humanity build site in March of 2011, and is a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Vanderbilt. He has organized all of the men’s golf activities related to community service, which include the SAAC Christmas party for students at a local elementary school and Halloween trick-or-treating with local children at Vanderbilt fraternities and sororities.
