SANTIAGO, Chile – Vanderbilt women’s basketball All-American Mikayla Blakes led Team USA to gold at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup on Sunday, as she was named the tournament’s most valuable player after a 27-point performance in the championship game.
Blakes, who was the 2024-25 USBWA Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year, scored 14.0 points per game to lead the United States in scoring at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. Additionally, the Vanderbilt guard pulled down 3.4 rebounds and collected 2.0 steals per game, while leading Team USA in minutes played at 22.1 per contest. The Somerset, New Jersey, native scored double-digit points in six of the seven games she played in Santiago, Chile.
The United States finished play a perfect 7-0 and defeated Brazil, 92-84, on Sunday to earn its fifth gold medal at the event and third over the last four competitions. Blakes scored 27 points and pulled down six rebounds in the title game. Her 27 points were the most for any American player at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
