Getting to know Riley LaChance

Freshman point guard Riley LaChance begins his first season with the Commodores after a very successful high school career in Brookfield, Wisc. The 6’2 guard led his Brookfield Central High School team to a 24-1 record as a senior when he averaged 23.0 points and 2.6 assists per game, and he left the school as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,643 points.

LaChance recently sat down and answered a few questions from vucommodores.com about his life on and off the court.

Favorite NBA team: Milwaukee Bucks.
The one NBA player you wished was your teammate: Lebron James.
Age I picked up a basketball: 3.
I picked my jersey number because: My Dad wore it in college.
When I was a kid I tried to be like: Steve Nash.
A few words that describe the way I play basketball: Fundamental, smart.
What I need to improve on to be a better player: Defense.
The thing that impresses me most about Coach Stallings: The way he thinks the game and how he communicates it to his players.
Favorite part about playing at Memorial Gym: The history and uniqueness of the gym.
Favorite sport other than basketball: Football.
Favorite musical performer: Jay Z.
Favorite movie: Tommy Boy.
Nobody can believe I watch this TV show:

Favorite midnight snack: Peanut Butter and Ritz Crackers.
Favorite thing about myself: Where I came from.
Worst habit: Procrastination.
Dream Date: Blake Lively.
My basketball “dream team” would be: Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Tim Duncan, and Hakeem Olajuwon.
The best tasting food I can make: Egg sandwich.
My bucket list includes: Traveling to every state.
Favorite athlete to watch in another sport: Aaron Rodgers.
Talent I’d most like to have: Dance.
Favorite thing to do away from basketball: Listen to music.
I’m as good as anyone at: Pool.
One thing my hometown is famous for: Summerfest.
My best non-athletic talent: Memorizing song lyrics.
Favorite aspect of Nashville: The city life.
Total number of songs on my IPOD or MP3 player: 2,000.
Superstitions: Put on left sock first.
The person I’d love to trade places with for a day: Lebron James.
What I would do if I won the lottery: Take a year long cruise around the world.
Ultimate vacation destination: Bora Bora.
The person(s) I admire most: My grandpa.
The best advice I’ve received (and list who gave it to you): “Set goals for yourself. If you don’t, you will not get anywhere.” – My grandpa.
The most famous person(s) I’ve met: Ray Allen, Dwayne Wade.
Biggest influence in my life: My parents.
Most important thing I’ve learned since coming to Vanderbilt: Time Management.
My advice to young people is: Make the most of the relationships and memories you have with your family. You never know how long you have with them.
I chose to attend Vanderbilt over these schools (list other schools that offered you a scholarship): Minnesota, Iowa, Creighton, Baylor, Butler, Xavier, San Diego, Missouri, Ole Miss.
Other interesting facts about yourself (famous people you know, interesting hobbies, life-changing experiences): Played for Ray Allen’s AAU team.
