Team Record and Series Notes:
-The series is now tied 4-4.
-This was head coach Bryce Drew’s first ever meeting against Iowa State.
Team Notes:
-The Commodores are now 1-3 in the Big 12 vs. SEC Challenge. Iowa State’s record in the event is 2-2.
-The game was tied at 33 apiece going into halftime. It was the third game this season and second game in a row that the score was tied at the break. Vanderbilt is now 1-2 when tied at halftime.
-Vanderbilt made 13 3-pointers as a team. It was the ninth time this season that the Commodores have made 10 or more 3’s in a game and the team now owns an 8-1 record in those games. The only loss was to Alabama on Jan. 7.
-The Commodores are now 6-1 when scoring 80 points or more.
-Vanderbilt out rebounded Iowa State, 35-27.
-The Commodores had 17 assists on 25 made baskets.
-Vanderbilt was 80.8% from the charity stripe for the night, the seventh game this year Vanderbilt has shot 80% or better and their third consecutive game above 80%.
Player Notes:
-Luke Kornet and Nolan Cressler both put up season-highs in scoring for Vanderbilt with 21 and 20 points, respectively. The game marked the first time that Vanderbilt has had two 20-point scorers since Damian Jones and Matthew Fisher-Davis scored 20 points apiece at Mississippi State on February 16, 2016.
-Kornet’s previous top mark was when he scored 20 points on Nov. 15 against Belmont.
-It was also the fifth time this season that Kornet had three 3-pointers or more.
-Cressler’s 20 points marked a career-best for him in a Commodores uniform. His previous season-best was 11 points on two different occasions. Cressler scored 34 points in a game for Cornell against Brown on Feb. 22, 2014 before transferring to Vanderbilt.
-The game marked Cressler’s 12th career 20-point performance and his four 3-pointers marked a season-high mark.
-Jeff Roberson led the Commodores in rebounds and assists with nine and six, respectively.
-Roberson also pitched in with 16 points and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line
-Matthew Fisher-Davis scored 14 points and was 3-6 from 3-point distance. It was the 16th time that he has scored in double-figures this season and the 10th time this season that he has made three or more 3-pointers in a game.
