Free Admission To VU Thanksgiving Tournament

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Commodore fans looking for free family fun around the Thanksgiving holiday are encouraged to come out and support the No. 17/20 Vanderbilt women’s basketball team during the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament presented by the City Paper.

Athletic department officials announced Wednesday that admission is free for all four games on Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26 at Memorial Gymnasium. Cash donations will be accepted at the door to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee.

Head Coach Melanie Balcomb’s hoopsters will play host to Charleston Southern, Colgate and McNeese State in the two-day event over Thanksgiving weekend. On Friday the 25th, the Commodores will take on Charleston Southern at 2 p.m. CT, with a Colgate-McNeese State matchup to follow around 4 p.m. The following day, the tournament’s consolation game will tip-off at 2 p.m., followed by the championship game at approximately 4 p.m.

Memorial Gymnasium will be the place to bring the entire family on Nov. 25 and 26. Along with the four exciting women’s basketball contests, Commodore fans of all ages will enjoy a “Fun 4 Kids” area which includes a sign-making station, face painting, balloon artists and a cartoon character.

In 2005-06, the Commodores are looking to build on their recent successes, which include NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in the each of the past two seasons. Vanderbilt welcomes back six letterwinners, including juniors Carla Thomas and Dee Davis, who were both named to the preseason All-Southeastern Confernence team. The Dores will also feature seven newcomers this season, as two transfers and a highly touted freshmen class make their Nashville debut.
