NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Four Vanderbilt women’s basketball players received All-SEC honors, it was announced by the Southeastern Conference on Wednesday, February 29. Christina Foggie (first team), Tiffany Clarke (second team), Jasmine Lister (second team) and Kady Schrann(freshman team) were all recognized.
Foggie was named First Team All-SEC after leading the league in scoring at 17.9 points per game. The sophomore guard led Vanderbilt in scoring 13 times this season, scored 20 points on 11 occasions and had a career-high 24 points in a 68-48 win over No. 17/15 Georgia. She also led the league in three-point percentage (42.9%).
She was Vanderbilt’s first SEC scoring champion since 1991, when Wendy Scholtens won her third scoring title. Foggie also matched Scholtens earlier in the year when she had five consecutive 20-point games. They are the only two players in Vanderbilt history to accomplish that feat.
Foggie was joined on the first time by C’eira Ricketts (Arkansas), Jennifer George (Florida), Anne Marie Armstrong (Georgia), A’dia Mathies (Kentucky), LaSondra Barrett (LSU), Glory Johnson (Tennessee) and Shekinna Stricklen (Tennessee).
Two Vanderbilt players were named Second Team All-SEC.
Lister led the conference in assists at 5.5 per contest, while also posting the top free-throw percentage at 84.7%. The sophomore guard has dished out five-plus assists on 19 occasions this season, including a career-high 13 in Vanderbilt’s win over Tennessee. She had her first career double-double in that contest, also scoring 19 points.
Clarke received the second team nod thanks to her impressive play in SEC games. During league play, she was sixth in the conference in scoring (13.4 points per game) and fourth in rebounding (7.5 per game). The junior forward also led the conference in field goal percentage during SEC play at 61.9%, was 13th in blocks at 0.9 per game and was 15th in free throw percentage at 67.0%.
Lister and Clarke were joined on the second team by Sarah Watkins (Arkansas), Jasmine Hassell (Georgia), La’Keisha Sutton (South Carolina), Ieasia Walker (South Carolina), Markeshia Grant (South Carolina), Valencia McFarland (Ole Miss) and Diamber Johnson (Mississippi State).
Schrann made the All-Freshman team after starting 27 of 29 games as a true freshman. She posted 7.1 points per game, while shooting 46% from the field and adding 52 assists on the season.
The freshman team also included Calli Berna (Arkansas), Hasina Muhammad (Auburn), Erika Ford (Georgia), Bria Goss (Kentucky), Martha Alwal (Mississippi State), Aleighsa Welch (South Carolina) and Ariel Massengale (Tennessee).
Foggie, Lister, Clarke, Schrann and the rest of the Commodores open the 2012 SEC Tournament on Thursday, March 1, when they face Mississippi State at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
