7/5/2006 Former Commodores Matt Freije and Julian Terrell have been invited to participate in summer leagues sponsored by teams in the National Basketball Association. Freije has joined the summer team for the Houston Rockets, playing games in the Toshiba Vegas Summer League from July 6-14. Terrell has joined a similar squad for the Washington Wizards, playing games in both the Vegas league and at the Long Beach Summer League from July 14-18. Freije and Terrell helped guide the Commodores to a 23-10 overall record and an appearance in the Phoenix regional semifinal of the NCAA Tournament in 2004. Freije, a native of Overland Park, Kan., concluded his collegiate playing career in 2004 as Vanderbilt’s all-time leading scorer (1,891 points). He averaged 18.4 points and 5.4 rebounds as an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American his senior year. Terrell concluded his Vanderbilt stay in 2006 as only the second player in program history (besides Will Perdue) to grab more than 600 rebounds and record more than 100 blocked shots. The Nashville native posted 630 rebounds and 116 blocked shots for his career. Terrell Freije was drafted in the second round of the 2004 NBA Draft by Miami. He saw action in 23 games for the New Orleans Hornets during the 2004-05 campaign, averaging 4.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 19.2 minutes. He played for the Denver Nuggets’ summer league squad in 2005. The complete schedule with results from the Vegas Summer League are available at www.vegassummerleague.com.
