Vanderbilt women’s basketball player Christina Foggie has been named the SEC Co-Player of the Week for her play November 27-December 4.
The sophomore guard has scored at least 20 points in each of the last four Vanderbilt contests. After scoring 21 against then-No. 12/14 Oklahoma, Foggie averaged 24.7 points in three contests this past week, shooting 52.6% from the field and 50.0% from three-point range. She leads Vanderbilt in scoring on the season, posting 16.9 points per game.
“Christina is so well-deserving of this recognition,” said Vanderbilt Head Coach Melanie Balcomb. “The confidence and focus she has brought to the games have come from a constant work ethic in practice. What has been the most impressive is that her defensive energy has created so many opportunities for her and her teammates.”
Foggie opened the week scoring 25 points on the road at Austin Peay, helping the Commodores to an 83-51 win. She shot 7-13 from the field in the contest and made all eight attempts from the foul line while adding five steals.
She returned home to score 23 points in a win over Denver, 77-56. Against the Pioneers, she shot 8-13 from the field while going 6-9 from three-point range.
The sophomore capped the week off by scoring a career-high 26 points in a 70-54 win over High Point. She shot 9-11 in the week’s third game, hitting three shots from three-point range and five-of-seven free throws.
Foggie is the second-straight Vanderbilt player to be named SEC Player of the Week, following classmate and fellow guard Jasmine Lister from a week ago.
Foggie shares the honor with Kentucky’s A’dia Mathies.
