Fisk, Vanderbilt Set For Historic MLK Day Event

Schools combining to host gymnastics meet featuring all African American women head coaches

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Fisk University and Vanderbilt Athletics are days away from co-hosting an event that will be featured as part of Nashville’s Martin Luther King Jr. week of celebration.

A gymnastics meet including Fisk, Brown, Iowa State, Rutgers, Talladega (Ala.) and William & Mary—bringing together the only African American women head coaches in the sport for the first time ever—will be held at Memorial Gymnasium. The event is set to get underway at 3 p.m. on Monday, with gates opening at 2 p.m.

Following the conclusion of this historic competition, all student-athletes from each of the six programs in the event will take part in an autograph session on the main floor of Memorial Gym. Fans will be asked to line up on the stairs and enter the floor through Section G following the meet.

Tickets for the event can be purchased by accessing links via Vanderbilt’s athletics website HERE. Reserved tickets in Sections A-E and Sections 2A-2E are available for $10-20, and general admission tickets can be purchased for $7-15. All college students showing a valid student ID will receive free admission.

Parking for the event will be available for free in the 25th Avenue Garage.

The meet will also be available nationally as part of a broadcast that will air on ESPN+.
