Thursday’s NCAA Results Plus Live Scoring
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Vanderbilt sophomore Jacqui Concolino carded her best single-round score of the season, a 4-under par 67, on Thursday to lead the field after the first round of the NCAA Central Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course (Par 71; 6,116 yards).
The First Team All-Southeastern Conference performer leads a trio of players by one stroke. Taylor Leon of Georgia, Catherine Matranga of TCU and USC’s Belen Mozo each finished at 3-under 68.
Vanderbilt posted a 6-over par 290 team score to enter Friday’s second-round play in fourth place, seven strokes behind tournament leader Southern California (283). The Women of Troy were the only team to post a team round below par at 1-under. Indiana and TCU are tied for second after a 5-over 289.
“Jacqui put herself in position to be successful all day,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Richards said. “She drove the ball well and hit a lot of greens in regulation. She was very solid and very consistent.”
Fellow Commodores junior Liebelei Lawrence and senior Kristen Svicarovich are tied with five other players for 26th place after finishing at 3-over 74. Senior Chris Brady is tied with 10 other players for 33rd position after a 4-over 75. Freshman Brooke Goodwin is tied for 62nd place after a 6-over 77.
“Everyone was focused and played with a lot of aggressiveness today,” Richards said. “We’re excited to get off to a decent start. Everyone is fired up to play tomorrow because we know we can get even lower scores.”
Vanderbilt will start second-round action from the 10th hole Friday at 12:10 CT. Follow live scoring through the tournament at www.golfstat.com. The tournament concludes Saturday.
The top eight teams and two individuals advance to the NCAA Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla., May 22-25. Vanderbilt is looking to make its first appearance at the NCAA Championship since 2004.
