First Round Results

The Commodore women’s golf team carded a team score of 309 in the opening round of the Clemson Invitational and are in 16th place on the team leader board at The Reserve at Lake Keowee. Vanderbilt freshman Abbey Carlson was the team’s leading scorer on Friday, posting a three-over, 75, in her first round.

Vanderbilt also counted a 76 from junior Alexandra Farnsworth, a 77 from freshman Alison Armstrong, and an 81 from senior Kate Sborov.

“It’s gonna take more than a rough day on the golf course for me to get discouraged or for me to stop believing in my team,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “I know we are not scoring well but I do think we are making strides in the right direction. Abbey Carlson is looking solid and is so close to breaking through with some low scores. We’ve got our backs against the wall, but I believe this team has some fight left in them.”

Furman leads the tournament with a three-under par, 285, three shots better than second-place Michigan State. The Purple Paladins’ Alice Chen leads all individuals with a four-under par, 68.
