As a team, Vanderbilt (279+299+316=894) finished eighth overall, 16 strokes behind tournament winner Duke (285+297+296=878). Georgia (285+293+303=878) took second while Arkansas (291+296+297=884) finished third. Winds blowing over 20 miles per hour presented challenging playing conditions with Duke (+8) and Arkansas (+9) carding the only rounds below 10-over par during final-round play. Vanderbilt freshman Amber Lundskog (75+72+76=223) shot a 4-over par 76 on Sunday to tie four other players for 16th place. “I’m very proud of our freshmen,” Commodore Head Coach Martha Richards Freitag said. “Having them finish in the Top 20 was outstanding.” Other Vanderbilt finishes included sophomore Liebelei Lawrence (68+78+83=229) tying for 35th, junior Chris Brady (72+80+81=233) tying for 51st place and junior Kristen Svicarovich (71+80+84=235) tying for 61st position. Playing as individuals, Vanderbilt’s Helen Richards (78+75+81=240) tied for 57th while Julie Bartholomew (77+83+80=240) finished tied for 73rd. “I was disappointed that we did not play better today,” Freitag said. “We’ve got to get every person playing up to her capabilities and perform like we did during the first two rounds.” Vanderbilt returns to action Oct. 7-9 at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Commodores and Vanderbilt Legends Club will play host to the 2006 Southeastern Conference Championship April 14-16. “I want to thank Vanderbilt Legends Club and all of the tournament volunteers for putting on a great event that featured the nation’s elite teams,” Freitag said. “We’re looking forward to hosting the SEC Championship in the spring.” MASON RUDOLPH CHAMPIONSHIP AGATE |
