HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Vanderbilt women’s golf closed out the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Wednesday with a 1-over-par score to secure a 12th-place team finish. Wednesday’s final-round 285 was a tournament low for the Commodores, going 290-295-285 on their way to an 18-over-par total for 54 holes.
“It was nice to see us play closer to our potential today and end the tournament on a positive note,” said head coach Greg Allen. “But with the strength of this field, it was hard to make up any ground. We need to do a better job of coming out hot on day one.”
Lynn Lim continued leading the way for the Dores on Wednesday, carding three birdies on her way to a 2-under 69 in the third round. Lim’s share of 12th place overall was her fourth top-20 finish of the year.
“As I said yesterday, it was really great to see Lynn playing well again,” said Allen. “This is a really good finish for her against some of the best players in the world. She and Ava really carried us today.”
Ava Merrill’s 1-under-par final round included five birdies on the day. Wednesday was her 10th round of the season at or under par. Both Celina Sattelkau and Virginie Ding went 2 over to complete their time at Long Cove Club. Tillie Claggett notched a 3-over-par 74 total.
“I thought the girls gave a great effort today, and I’m proud of how they always represent Vanderbilt with high integrity,” said Allen. “We’re going to take some time off and let the girls get out of town for spring break, then get back to work next week looking to close out the regular season with a strong showing at Clemson.”
Vanderbilt women’s golf will return to South Carolina to close the regular season at the Clemson Invitational from March 22-24.
