Junior Alexandra Farnsworth was selected to play as one of six individuals at the NCAA Women’s Golf Regional in Athens, Ga., at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Farnsworth, from Nashville, averaged 74.25 strokes per round in 28 rounds of competition in 2016-17.
Farnsworth tied for third at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown earlier this season in her best finish of the season. At the recent SEC Championship, Farnsworth tied for 17th on the individual leader board.
Eighteen teams and six individuals not affiliated with those teams were selected for four regional sites. Six teams and three individuals will advance from each regional. As a team, the Commodores fell short of qualifying for the NCAA Regionals this season.
“Well, I’m certainly disappointed for the team and for our program,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We have high standards and expect to compete at a high level everyday. Unfortunately, we were inconsistent this season, but I’m very optimistic about our future.
“However, I’m thrilled for Farney. That girl works really hard and there may not be another student-athlete on our campus that has more passion about Vanderbilt University than Alexandra Farnsworth. She will be our senior leader next year, so the experience she will gain in the post-season will help us get back to where we should be.”
Regional play takes place May 8-10.
