Sophomore Alexandra Farnsworth maintained her individual lead at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C., firing a second-round 72 and posting a two-round total of 139 (67-72), which ties Virginia’s Lauren Coughlin atop the individual leader board. As a team, the Commodores are tied for third with Oklahoma State and have a two-round score of 582 (282-300).
The Commodores counted Farnsworth’s 72, a 74 from senior Jennifer Hahn, a 75 from sophomore Cindy Ha, and a 79 from junior Kate Sborov on Saturday in the second round. Playing as an individual, senior Morgan Ransom tallied a second-round 70, which tied her for the second-lowest round of the day. Conditions were noticeably tougher in the tournament’s second round at Long Cove.
“I thought the golf course played really tough today and it wasn’t our best ball striking day, so I’m happy with how we hung in there and didn’t lose too much distance from Alabama,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “In fact, it was a grind for all three schools in the last group. Tomorrow should be a really fun day and a great opportunity for this team.”
Alabama maintains their team lead with an eight-over par, 576 (278-298), three shots better than second-place Virginia and six clear of the Commodores and Oklahoma State.
The third and final round of the tournament concludes Sunday with Vanderbilt teeing off at 7:45 CT.
