Alexandra Farnsworth continued her stellar play at the 2017 SEC Championship on Saturday, carding an even-par 72 at the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Ala., to lead the Commodores in the second round of action. Farnsworth is currently tied for fifth on the individual leader board with a score of four-under par 140 (68-72), and as a team, Vanderbilt is in 10th place with a total of 589 (287-302) heading into the third and final round Sunday.
The Commodores counted Farnsworth’s 72, a 74 from Abbey Carlson, and a pair of 78’s from Courtney Zeng and Alison Armstrong on Saturday.
“Gosh today was rough,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “It started on the first hole with a couple bad swings for a few of the girls. And then a couple more bad swings near the end. All added up to some big numbers. We made a bunch of birdies, but unfortunately too many doubles and triples. However, I’m really, really proud of Farney. I’m excited about the opportunity that she has in front of her tomorrow.”
Florida leads all teams with a two-round score of 564 (284-280), five shots better than second-place Georgia. Individually, Harang Lee of Georgia leads all players with an eight-under par, 136 (69-67).
The third and final round of the tournament concludes on Sunday.
