Sophomore Alexandra Farnsworth posted a career-best second-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C., with a final three-round total of 214 (67-72-75) on Sunday. As a team, the Commodores finished in 11th place with a final score of 889 (282-300-307).

Farnsworth tied Maddie Mccrory of Oklahoma State, Lauren Coughlin of Virginia, and Sandy Choi of Duke for second, and finished one stroke back of individual champion Cheyenne Knight of Alabama, who finished at even-par, 213 (67-74-72) for the weekend.

Farnsworth and senior Jennifer Hahn were Vanderbilt’s top finishers, with Hahn carding a three-round score of 219 (71-74-74), which tied her for 13th individually. Other scores for the weekend included a 229 (71-75-83, T-62) from sophomore Cindy Ha, a 233 from junior Kate Sborov (78-79-76, 79th), and a 246 from junior Antonia Scherer (73-91-82, 90th). Senior Morgan Ransom tallied a 226 (77-70-79, T-45) for the tournament playing as an individual.

“It was a rough day at the office,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “But then again, my office is on a golf course, so it can’t be all that bad. Just a tough way to finish after starting so well. I think today was a day of poor ball striking for some. And when that happens on this golf course, it puts so much pressure on your short game. I’m really happy of the fight Farney put up today. What a great experience for her this weekend and so many positives for her to walk away with. She had a lot of putts burn the edge the last two days.”

Alabama led wire to wire at the Long Cove Club and won the tournament by seven shots over second-place Virginia.

The Commodores return to the course March 14-15 at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Arizona.
