Fall season concludes at UMES tourney

It’s Hawk Classic Time: Third-ranked Vanderbilt concludes its fall season this weekend at Maryland-Eastern Shore’s Hawk Classic, an event the Commodores have attended longer than any other on their schedule.

Two-State Footprint: The tournament is held at the Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Delaware while the team stays in nearby Ocean View, Maryland.

Many Northeast Teams: Adelphi, Central Missouri, Coppin State, Delaware State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Franklin Pierce, Howard, Kutztown, Long Island, UMES, Monmouth, Morgan State, New Jersey City, Norfolk State, Sacred Heart, Saint Francis (Pa), Saint Francis (NY), Sam Houston, Tulane and Vanderbilt.

Tourney format: Friday – 9:55 CST Five, 4-game Bakers; Saturday – 7:25 CST First of six traditional games; Sunday – 7:30 CST Best-of-seven Bakers

Success happens here: At one point in time, Vanderbilt had won the Hawk Classic five times in six years with the last title coming in 2011. Last year Vandy finished second.

New NTCA Poll: Vanderbilt jumped two spots from the pre-season poll and is now ranked third by the National Ten Pin Coaches Association.

Quick fall recap: The Commodores are 28-12. After a modest fourth place start at the Sugar Bowl Classic, Vandy won the New Jersey Jamboree and finished a very close second two weeks ago at Valparaiso’s Crusader Classic.

Extra highlight: The Commodores plan to tour Washington D.C.’s Capitol area Thursday afternoon before moving on to the tournament site.
