TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Sophomore John Ewing paced the Commodores with a 42nd place finish at the NCAA South Regional. The Commodores placed 22nd in their final meet of the fall.
Ewing finished the 10K race in 31:57.0. He was joined in the top 100 by Matthew Cleveland, who placed 88th with a time of 32:51.2.
Vanderbilt’s scoring was rounded out by Nick French, Andrew Bachman and Alan Ash.
French completed the course in a time of 33:37.8. Bachman clocked a time of 33:47.2, while Ash posteda mark of 33:48.9.
Vanderbilt Head Coach Steve Keith was very impressed with Ewing’s performance, to say the least.
“That’s the best individual performance I’ve seen as a coach since I’ve been at Vanderbilt,” Keith said. “He was really focused the last couple of weeks and he had his mind set on running well today. He’ll be a good person to continue to build around.”
Host Florida State won the meet with 27 points, followed by Georgia with 48 points. The Seminoles and Bulldogs both secure automatic berths to the NCAA Championships.
