Eric Jones Named Vanderbilt Ticket Manager 3/1/2006 Eric Jones, the Ticket Sales Manager for the Nashville Kats and a long-time member of the Belmont athletic department, today was named Vanderbilt Athletic Ticket Manager by Chris Wyrick, Executive Director of Athletic Development. Jones brings a vast and varied professional experience to his new position. He became the Kats Ticket Sales Manager in August of 2005, overseeing both season tickets and group sales. He managed the Kats full-time account executives as well as the seasonal account executives and was instrumental in developing marketing campaigns and in the establishment of a grassroots marketing initiative. “I’ve watched Nashville grow since I arrived here as a student in 1990,” Jones says. “One of the reasons for the city’s growth and success has been Vanderbilt University; it is an integral part of Nashville. This is a real treat for me to now be working at the ultimate teaching university.” Jones says he has some definite priorities as he begins. “The ticket office is usually the first line of communication with the public in any athletics organization,” he says, “and our ticket office personnel need to be very good listeners. We want to understand our fans, get their feedback and hear their ideas. Our job is to then relay what we are learning to others in the administration. We want to be very fan friendly.” Jones has a deep background in marketing, serving at the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing/Baseball Operations at Belmont from June of 2003 until August of 2005. In that capacity he helped generate over $100,000 in signage, game broadcast and program advertising. His responsibilities at Belmont were many. He was in a leadership role for the Parents Legacy capital campaign to generate baseball revenue for an indoor facility, he served as the play-by-play voice of Belmont baseball for seven years, he marketed BruinWear merchandise and coordinated special events. “We think Eric Jones is an ideal fit at Vanderbilt,” Wyrick said in his announcement. “He has a strong marketing background, which will compliment our current efforts. He has a passion for outstanding customer service and he knows Nashville and the Middle Tennessee area well after 15 years of service to Belmont. Perhaps most importantly, he has an excellent personality that our fans and our staff will quickly come to appreciate.” Prior to his lengthy stint with Belmont’s marketing, Jones was the school’s Director of Sports Information and Operations from 1993-1996. He graduated cum laude from Belmont in 1992 and has a Master’s degree in mass communications from Middle Tennessee State. Jones begins his new duties March 6. |
