CALI, COLUMBIA—Josie Earnest led the United States trios team to the gold medal Wednesday at the Pan American Bowling Confederation tournament Wednesday.
The Vanderbilt assistant coach teamed with fellow USA stars Shannon Pluhowsky and Shannon O’Keefe to outdistance host Columbia, which finished with the silver. The USA’s other trios team of Missy Parkin, Bryanna Côte and Danielle McEwan won bronze.
Earnest, who had not found her rhythm during the tournament’s first two days, came alive and fashioned games of 268-174-210-279-234-236 for a dazzling 1,401 series.
Vanderbilt senior Giselle Poss, bowling for Puerto Rico, continued her steady tournament by competing on the fifth place trios team. She teamed with Kristie Lopez and Mariana Ayala.
The tournament continues with team competition Thursday. The United States coach will have a difficult decision, choosing five women from his squad of six superstars to officially go for the gold.
