Vanderbilt bowler Jessica Earnest, a three-time All-American, is representing Junior Team USA at the World Youth Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. The rising senior checks-in with VUCommodores.com about her experiences, both at the alley and away from competition.

This blog is going to be full of great things. I first want to congratulate the three Vanderbilt men’s basketball players who were drafted into the NBA. I am extremely happy to say that I got to go to school with you, and I wish you all the best of luck!
The day started off kind of rocky for me. Not bowling wise, but I woke up being my clumsy self. I stepped on a plastic remote control holder and cut the bottom of my toe. Anyone that really knows me will understand I was successful from not passing out at the sight of blood. The odd thing about this little incident is my thought process following it. I somehow knew that this was a good sign. The unfortunate incident happened at the hotel, and the bowling was going to be great. I suppose this thought was correct since the team and I made it into the medal round!
I cannot describe how excited I am to say I will medal in the team event. I have always said bowling tournaments like this are my favorite. I love knowing that I get to share something with three other girls. We have not done this alone though. We have amazing support from our teammates who were not chosen for this tournament. I think I can speak for the rest of the girls when saying that it means everything receiving messages on all the social network sites.
We bowl Korea in the semifinals. This will not be easy to win, but like anything, we are bowling the lanes.
On a side note, I want to give a shout out to my sister (Josie). We received news that she will be representing the United States this year as well! This will be her first adult appearance for Team USA. I am a very proud sister. The day has been great for the Earnest household.
I would also like to say thank you to my family for their support. Being at this tournament made me realize how much I love representing my country, my school and my family.
Hopefully the next time you read my blog I will be writing about winning the gold!
