LINCOLN, Neb. — No. 2 Vanderbilt bowling bounced back on the final day of Nebraska’s Big Red Invitational, taking a fifth-place finish.
In their first match of the day, the Commodores dropped a 1,007-1,021 decision to No. 8 Youngstown State in the final traditional match heading into bracket play.
Vandy faced No. 14 Sam Houston, taking a 230-163 victory in the first round of bracket play. The Dores fell behind early before bouncing back to win three straight to move to the second round.
In the next round, the Commodores earned a 203-191 win over No. 5 Louisiana Tech in a back-and-forth match to secure a fifth-place finish.
“Today started with a close loss to Youngstown to finish the bracket but I’m really proud of the girls’ resiliency and beating a good Sam Houston and Louisiana Tech team in the bracket,” head coach John Williamson said. “We had a tough weekend but responded well to the adversity.”
Vandy will have a weekend off before hosting the Music City Classic at the Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee, March 6-8.
