The Commodores’ women’s golf team carded a three-round total of 905 (301-306-298) to finish in 12th place at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate over the weekend at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. Commodore senior Kendall Martindale was Vanderbilt’s top finisher, ending the tournament in a tie for 20th with a final score of 222 (75-75-72).
Vanderbilt had their best round of the weekend Sunday, firing a team total of 298. The Commodores counted Martindale’s final-round 72, freshman Alexandra Farnsworth’s 74, as well as a pair of 76’s from freshman Cindy Ha and senior Irina Gabasa.
Duke won the event, which featured 14 of the nation’s top 30 teams, with a final score of 858 (293-283-282), nine shots better than second-place LSU. The Blue Devils’ Leona Maguire won a playoff with LSU’s Madalen Sagstrom on the first playoff hole to claim medalist honors.
Vanderbilt returns to the course at the Bryan National Collegiate April 3-5 in Greensboro, N.C.
