Dores Welcome Hemenway

Clemson transfer joins Vanderbilt for 2024-25

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Alex Hemenway, a graduate transfer from Clemson, has officially joined the Vanderbilt men’s basketball roster for the 2024-25 season.

Hemenway played five seasons for the Tigers where he played in 95 games with 25 starts. An elite shooter, the 6-foot-4 guard is a career 42.9 percent three-point shooter on 289 career attempts. Hemenway has averaged 5.3 points in 16.5 minutes per game over his career.

“Alex is in position here at Vanderbilt to have a great last year of college basketball,” said head coach Mark Byington. “He was a starter on a really good ACC team and can do a lot of things to help a team win. He is one of the best shooters in the country and can break a game open quickly. Since he shoots at such a high level, the other parts of his game are really underrated. He is a good athlete who can pass, is tough and can defend.”

Hemenway battled injuries in each of his final two seasons at Clemson. In 2023-24, he played five games and averaged 5.2 points before injury. As a senior in 2022-23, Hemenway fought through injury to play 20 games with 12 starts. He averaged a career-best 6.9 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc. He scored a career-high 18 points against USC Upstate and tallied five games in double figures. He also hit at least three three-pointers in six games.

In his junior season of 2021-22, Hemenway appeared in 31 games with two starts for the Tigers. He averaged 5.2 points while shooting 40.6 percent from the three-point line on 96 attempts. In 2020-21, Hemenway started 11 games while playing in 24 and averaged 4.7 points. He began his collegiate career in 2019-20 and appeared in 15 games off the bench to average 4.8 points while hitting threes at 47.6 percent his freshman season.

For his career, Hemenway has hit 124-of-289 three-point attempts. He has shot over 40 percent from deep in four of his five seasons.

A native of Newburgh, Indiana, Hemenway comes to Vanderbilt with one season of eligibility remaining.
