NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After a strong meet in South Bend, Vanderbilt men’s and women’s cross country teams hit the road again to compete at the Blazer Classic hosted by the University of Alabama at Birmingham at Veterans Park in Hoover, Alabama, on Saturday.
The first women’s 6-kilometer race gets things started at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men’s 8K race at 9:15 a.m.
Along with the host team, Vanderbilt will compete against Belmont, Birmingham Southern, Clemson, Emory, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Memphis, Montevallo, New Orleans, North Alabama, Oglethorpe, Samford, Tulane, Tuskegee, Tennessee Southern and Western Kentucky University.
At the Joe Piane Invitational on Oct. 1, senior Matthew Estopinal placed sixth overall (24:37.4) in the men’s 8-kilometer gold race. In the women’s 5k race, senior Grace Jensen finished in 16:46.3, placing 24th among the 197 competitors. Vanderbilt finished 20th in the women’s race and 12th in the men’s race. A full recap is here.
Last year at the Blazer Classic, Vanderbilt cross country finished eighth in the women’s race and ninth in the men’s meet.
This is the last race for the Commodores before they head to the SEC Championships on Oct. 29 in Columbia, Missouri.
