ORLANDO, Fla. — Vanderbilt bowling ended in fourth place after three days of competition at Sacred Heart’s Destination Orlando Sunday.
“Overall, it was a solid opening weekend” head coach John Williamson said. “We competed at a consistently high level throughout. We didn’t make many mistakes, but in best-of-seven matches, the team that makes the errors often pays the price and today that was us. We should feel good about our performance, but we also know there are better things ahead.”
After an unbeaten second day, the Commodores kicked off Sunday with a Baker match win over Sacred Heart, which determined the final seeding for bracket play.
In an intense first round of bracket play, Vanderbilt, seeded second, fell to third-seeded Nebraska 4-2. The Dores fought back from a 3-0 deficit to make the score 3-2, but the Huskers closed out the match in the sixth game, winning it 199-196.
The Dores battled through the consolation round against Arkansas State but came up short, ultimately finishing fourth after a hard-fought weekend.
After leading the field all weekend, No. 1 Jacksonville State powered past Arkansas State in Round 1, then took down Nebraska in Round 2 to claim the tournament title.
Graduate student Isabel Allen shined with a top five individual finish to earn a spot on the all-tournament team, totaling 1,149 pins and averaging 229.80.
The Commodores have two weeks before their next tournament, the SFA Ladyjack Classic, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, scheduled for Nov. 8-10.
