HOUSTON–Vanderbilt struggled to win four of its six games Friday at the Stormin’ Ladyjack Bowling Classic Friday.

On a day that Coach John Williamson said might best be forgotten, the third-ranked Commodores defeated Prairie View, Texas Southern Grambling and Southern while experiencing bookend losses at the start and finish of the day against Fairleigh Dickinson and Long Island-Brooklyn.

The Commodores averaged 196.6 over the six, 5-game Baker sets and are in sixth place, 231 pins behind pace-setting North Carolina A&T. Nebraska is second, FDU third, Arkansas State fourth and host Stephen F. Austin fifth in the 17 team field. No team managed to go unbeaten on the uneven day.

Vanderbilt used various lineup combinations, looking to get a spark that never came.

“It was a difficult lane pattern and we complicated it with sub-par execution,” Williamson said. “We could never generate any momentum today but we will wipe the slate clean and expect to perform better tomorrow.”

The Commodores will have a challenging Saturday with team games against some of the top squads in the tournament.

Williamson thought Kristin Quah was one of the few bright spots Friday, using the freshman in the anchor position part of the day.

The action begins at 9:25 a.m. and is livestreamed on Vanderbilt bowling’s Cube page.
