NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s basketball head coach Jerry Stackhouse announced the signing of Karris Bilal, Tyler Tanner and Jamie Vinson to National Letters of Intent on Friday. The three will join the Commodores as freshmen for the 2024-25 season.
“It’s an exciting day to officially welcome these young men and their families into our program,” Stackhouse said. “They are well rounded student-athletes who care about maximizing their talents as athletes and equally as members of our campus community. We look forward to their contributions to Vanderbilt basketball.”
Karris Bilal
- 6’3”, 185 lbs., Guard
- Atlanta, Ga.
- Riverwood International Charter School
Bilal is considered a three-star prospect on 247 Sports, Rivals and On3. The Atlanta product is ranked as the No. 20 point guard in the nation according to On3 and No. 26 on 247 Sports.
As a junior, Bilal averaged 22.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, helping Riverwood to the Georgia 6A Sweet 16. Bilal has garnered numerous honors throughout his high school career, including 6A Freshman of the Year, First Team All-State and two-time 6A Best Scorer.
Bilal plays his AAU ball for Alabama Fusion.
Bilal on his commitment: “I chose Vandy because of its academic reputation and due to my belief in coach Stackhouse’s vision to compete in the NCAA Tournament for a championship.”
Stackhouse on Bilal: “Karris and his family have been committed to our vision for Vanderbilt for a long time. He is a versatile guard with athleticism and explosive scoring ability. He also has the physical tools and desire to become an impactful SEC defender. Karris is a tireless worker who will transition seamlessly to our campus and program.”
Tyler Tanner

A local product, Tanner is a three-star prospect and the No. 28 point guard in the country according to 247 Sports. The Brentwood Academy standout is also ranked as the No. 4 player in the state of Tennessee.
Tanner was crowned the 2023 Gatorade Player of the Year in Tennessee after averaging 19.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.1 steals per game as a junior to help Brentwood Academy to a state championship. He is the fourth Commodore since 2000 to be named Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year, joining Darius Garland, John Jenkins and Derrick Byars. Tanner is also a two-time Mr. Basketball finalist and first team All-State selection.
Tanner plays AAU ball for Bradley Beal Elite and is the son of D’Wayne and Jenifer who both played collegiate basketball at Rice.

Stackhouse on Tanner: “We are excited for Tyler to officially become a Commodore. His ability from the point guard position to make those around him better is among the best in his class. He plays the game the right way, makes great reads with the ball and uses his elite speed and quickness to compete on both ends of the floor. Tyler and his family are a great fit for Vanderbilt.”
Jamie Vinson

Vinson is a consensus three-star prospect and is ranked as high as the No. 29 forward in the country by Rivals. The big man is also a top 10 player in Virginia according to On3 (9th) and 247 Sports (10th).
Vinson is a versatile big who can stretch the floor with his shooting ability. He plays his high school basketball at nationally renowned Oak Hill Academy in Virginia where he has helped the Warriors to a 4-0 start this season. On the AAU circuit, Vinson plays for Southern Assault where he enjoyed a breakout summer campaign.
Vinson on his commitment: “I chose Vanderbilt because it is a place where I can grow and develop.”
Stackhouse on Vinson: “We are thrilled to welcome Jamie and his family to our program. He is a frontcourt player with great length and size, and his shooting ability makes him a great fit for our style of basketball. Jamie has the physical tools to be impactful on the defensive end with his instincts and time around the basket. We are excited about his trajectory as a player and believe we have the resources in place to help him reach his full potential.”
