Heading to New Orleans: The Commodores open their season Friday through Sunday at the All-State Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational, hosted by Tulane University. The tournament will be held on Tulane’s home lanes, the AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner.
Participating Teams: Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Arkansas State, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Jackson State, Louisiana Tech. Nebraska, North Carolina A&T, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Southern, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Southern, Tulane, Vanderbilt.
Tourney format: There will be six, 5-game Baker matches on Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. (CDT). Saturday there are six traditional games, also starting at 9 Central and Sunday the championship bracket kicks in with three rounds of best-of-seven Baker matches.
Following the tourney: Updates can be found on Vandy Bowling’s Twitter (@VandyBowling) and the team will be using its Ustream location to live stream matches.
Top Heavy: Five of the six top rated teams in the National Ten Pin Coaches Association’s pre-season poll are represented in the field; Nebraska (1), Arkansas State (2), Stephen F. Austin (3), Vanderbilt (5) and Sam Houston State (6).
Travel roster: Eight ‘Dores will make the trip – seniors Robyn Renslow, Amanda Fry and Tori Ferris; junior Giselle Poss and Nicole Powell; sophomore Katie Stark and freshmen Kristin Quah and Jordan Newham.
Last year’s result: The Commodores posted a 9-3 won-loss chart and lost in the semi-finals to place third at this event. Robyn Renslow was third individually.
Coach’s Comment: “You are always excited for the season to start,” says Head Coach John Williamson. “We this is a talented team and we have prepared well. We probably won’t finalize our lineup until we see how the practice session and warm-ups go down there. It’s a good field and that will give us an excellent measurement of how we stack up against others in October.”
