The latest buzz on the web on the Vanderbilt Commodores:

VUCommodores.com: Fernanda Contreras etched her name into the Vanderbilt women’s tennis history books last Sunday, when she became the Commodores’ first Rivera/ITA Singles Tournament Champion. The 63rd-ranked Contreras defeated No. 29 Aliona Bolsova from Florida Atlantic for the title. Meanwhile, the rest of the Dores enjoyed standout performances at the tournament.

Vanderbilt Hustler: Vanderbilt football is a family affair. Simon Gibbs spotlights three sets of brothers on the Vanderbilt football team: the Odeyingbos, the Pinkneys and the Smiths.

USA Today: On the heels of signing a top-ranked recruiting class, Vanderbilt baseball coach Tim Corbin discusses his recruiting philosophy with USA Today. “A Vanderbilt education is the perfect balance between learning and development,” Corbin said. “… When it comes to the recruiting philosophy of our baseball program, we’re looking for guys that fit that mold.”

Anchor Down Productions: The ADP crew set up shop at the Vanderbilt golf house this week for a feature on Commodores’ men’s golf coach Scott Limbaugh. Stay tuned!

SEC: As part of the SEC’s Football Legends for 2017, the conference will honor former Vanderbilt quarterback Don Orr at the SEC Championship Game in December. Orr led the Commodores to the program’s first-ever bowl berth — the Gator Bowl in 1955.

The Tennessean: Nashville’s hometown paper enjoyed a tour of Vanderbilt baseball’s brand new training facility, which is now in use by coaches and players. It features new batting cages, fresh coaches’ offices and even a pro locker room for former Commodores in the big leagues.

Wow, check out this video of @VandyBaseball facilities. Note: Can someone make me an office like @TimCorbin? Thankshttps://t.co/KdVBaen342

VUCommodores.com: Vanderbilt assistant bowling coach Josie Barnes was announced as a member of the six-woman Team USA at the 2017 World Championships Nov. 24-Dec. 4 in Las Vegas. Barnes, a former two-time NCAA Player of the Year and member of Vanderbilt’s 2007 NCAA championship team, is a five-time Team USA member after five appearances on the Junior Team USA. In her career, she has won more than a dozen international medals representing the USA.

The Tennessean: Adam Sparks writes on the inspiration of Vanderbilt assistant coach Osia Lewis, who has battled liver cancer since January. Lewis serves as an example for the Commodores as they navigate an SEC schedule. “(Our players) see somebody who they love very much fighting for his life,” head coach Derek Mason said. “So it’s all relative.”

American Athletic Conference: Beginning in 2019, Vanderbilt lacrosse will compete in the American Athletic Conference as part of a new six-team lacrosse league. The Commodores spent the last three years — and will spend this upcoming year — in the BIG EAST.
