Dores Lead the Pack After Day 1

Vanderbilt bowling is the top-seeded team after Day 1 at the Colonial Lanes Classic

HARAHAN, La. — Vanderbilt bowling sits atop the team rankings after Day 1 of competition at Tulane’s Colonial Lanes Classic in Harahan, Louisiana.

“We had a really good start and finish,” head coach John Williamson said. “We need to be quicker getting comfortable in transition, but overall, it was a pretty good day.”

The Commodores, ranked third nationally, won their first match of the day over No. 8 Sam Houston State by a score of 1,098-954.

Vandy defeated Jackson State, 1,111-955 in round 2.

The Dores dropped a pair of ranked matchups to No. 6 Arkansas State and second-ranked Nebraska in the third and fourth matches of the day. The Red Wolved narrowly edged out the Dores by a score of 991-933. In round 4, the Dores fell to the Cornhuskers in a 1,016-939 decision.

Playing its fourth ranked opponent of the day, Vandy earned a 1,112-951 win over No. 4 Youngstown State to jump into the lead to end the day.

Action continues at the Colonial Lanes Classic on Saturday at 8:55 a.m. with the first of five traditional games.
