NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s basketball head coach Shea Ralph announced the signing of transfer Jane Nwaba on Thursday, as the 5-10 forward joins the Commodores after a four-year career with Pepperdine. She will have one year of eligibility.
Nwaba (NWAH-Buh), a Carson, California, native, appeared in 105 games for the Wave and made 64 starts. She is coming off her best season at Pepperdine, as the forward averaged 10.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, which earned her an All-West Coast Conference honorable mention nod. She shot 41.7 percent from the floor last season and has made 35 career 3-pointers. Off the court, Nwaba was a two-time WCC All-Academic honorable mention selection and was on the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll twice.
“Our staff works hard to find outstanding people who fit our program and university,” said Ralph. “From my first conversation with Jane, it was obvious that she would be an incredible addition to our team. She is mature, confident, and an outstanding student. In addition, she has an elite athletic pedigree with four years of collegiate experience under her belt. Jane exudes a passion to further maximize her potential in every arena, and especially desires to be pushed towards greatness on the basketball court. We feel very fortunate and excited to welcome her into our Vanderbilt family.”
The versatile forward notched nine double-doubles during the 2023-24 season and had 10 or more rebounds on 11 occasions. Nwaba led Pepperdine with 19 double-figure scoring performances, scoring a career-high 22 points against San Francisco. She posted three-straight double-doubles against Saint Mary’s (13 points, 10 rebounds), Pacific (12 points, 10 rebounds), and Gonzaga (13 points, 10 rebounds) towards the end of WCC play.
Nwaba becomes the third member of Vanderbilt’s 2024 signing class, joining incoming freshmen Mikayla Blakes and Trinity Wilson.
