The 12th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf team ended the first day of play at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational with a team total of 293, which tied them with Florida for sixth place on the team leader board. Junior Jennifer Hahn fired a first-round 70 at the UNC Finley Golf Course, which ties her for fourth place in the individual standings.

“I’m really proud of the effort today and thought the girls played really hard,” said head coach Greg Allen. “We sure made enough birdies to be leading, but unfortunately made a few mistakes off the tee on a few holes and drove the ball into several fairway bunkers. Those are course management issues that should be easily fixed. I like the attitude and the mindset right now.”

Commodore Scores
Hahn, who made six birdies in her first round, paced Vanderbilt on day one of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel, which features 10 of the top 25 teams in women’s collegiate golf. Freshman Cindy Ha carded a one-over, 73 (T-21), senior Kendall Martindale shot a 74 (T-29), sophomore Antonia Scherer fired a four-over, 76 (T-53), and junior Morgan Ransom posted a first-round 80 (T-87).

Overall Leaders
The Commodores are six strokes back of team leader and number-one ranked South Carolina, who leads after round one by a stroke over Wake Forest and Duke. The Demon Deacons’ Marissa Dodd, Duke’s Celine Boutier, and N.C. State’s Augusta James are tied atop the individual leader board at four-under par.

Second Round
The second round continues Saturday at the UNC Finley Golf Course.
