The Commodore women’s golf team is in sixth place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate with a team score of 600 (294-306) after two rounds, which puts them in sixth place in the team standings. Freshman Cindy Ha and sophomore Antonia Scherer are the team’s leaders at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans, with each in a tie for eighth with a total of 146.
Vanderbilt trails fifth-place Florida by two strokes and leader UCLA by 12 strokes heading into the final round.
“That sure wasn’t the finish we were looking for,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “This course requires some very accurate shots and will penalize you with big numbers if you’re not careful. Unfortunately at this point in the season, and especially today, we just weren’t sharp. I really challenged Kendall and Jenn for tomorrow’s round and I’m anxious to see how they respond. On this course, anything can happen on almost every hole so tomorrow should be interesting and a lot of fun.”
LSU’s Caroline Nistrup and Madelene Sagstrom are tied atop the individual leader board at three-under par.
The Commodores counted a 73 from Scherer, a 76 from Jennifer Hahn, a 77 from Ha, and an 80 from Kendall Martindale. Alexandra Farnsworth carded an 86 on Monday. Irina Gabasa tallied a 76 as an individual.
The third round of the tournament concludes on Tuesday.
