The Commodore women’s golf team shot a second-round team total of 300 on Saturday, and is in third place heading into the final 18 holes Sunday with a score of 586 (286-300). Junior Rene Sobolewski is in a tie for fifth on the individual leader board with a total of 145 (69-75) and leads all Commodores.

Vanderbilt trails team leader Virginia by 12 strokes and second-place Arkansas by three.

“Today was a struggle to say the least,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “As easy as we made it look yesterday, it was just the opposite today. All those four and five footers we made yesterday didn’t drop for us today. The good thing is as poorly as we played, we’ll still be in the final group with a chance to win. We’ll need to play well, but this team is very capable and they believe we can do it.”

The Commodores counted a 74 from senior Lauren Stratton, a 75 from Kendall Martindale, and a 76 from Jenny Hahn. Irina Gabasa shot a second-round 81.

Despite the struggles, Vanderbilt still has three golfers in the top 17 on the individual leader board. Besides Sobolewski’s fifth-place standing, Stratton is in a tie for 12th with a 146, and Martindale is in a tie for 17th and has a two-round score of 147.

Virginia’s Brittany Altomare leads all individuals with a four-under par, 140 (70-70). She leads Emilie Burger of Georgia by two strokes.

The third and final round of the tournament concludes on Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. Eastern Time shotgun start. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
