NASHVILLE – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team will play its lone exhibition game on Sunday (Oct. 29) against Marian (Ind.) at 2 pm on Sunday afternoon in Memorial Gym. The game will give Commodore fans a chance to see the 2017-18 squad in advance of the home opener on Nov. 10 vs. Middle Tennessee.
In addition to seeing the Commodores, make sure you wear your costume. Kids (and kids at heart) are invited to test out their Halloween costumes at our game. Come dressed in your costume and at halftime we’ll have a parade of costumes on the court and by fan vote we’ll crown a winner who will earn a Commodore prize pack!

The Commodores are coming off a 14-16 season in head coach Stephanie White’s first season at the helm. The team returns 77.5 percent of their scoring in 2017-18 and return two of their top three 3-point shooters from last year in Kaleigh Clemons-Green (.449) and Christa Reed (.446). Vanderbilt will be more experienced in 2017-18 as last year’s freshmen got lots of experience but the team will still be young with 11 of their 14 players, having only played at Vanderbilt for a year or less.
There will be a Purdue connection on the sidelines in Sunday’s contest. The Marian (Ind.) Knights head coach is Katie Geralds, a 2007 Purdue grad. Geralds is in her fifth season on the Marian sidelines and her Knights are the two-time defending NAIA national champions. She has also been named NAIA Coach of the Year each of the last two years and her team is picked to win their league for the third consecutive season and were the No. 1 team in the preseason NAIA poll.
Vanderbilt will kick off the 2017-18 season on Nov. 10 against Middle Tennessee in the first game of a doubleheader with the Commodore men’s team. The women’s team will tipoff at 6 pm in Memorial Gym for some #Memorial Magic.
