Scouting The Commodores
The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team (8-3) returns home with a five-game winning streak. The most recent addition to the streak was a 76-63 win at No. 12/13 Oklahoma which saw four players score in double figures. On the season, Tiffany Clarke leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, posting 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The senior forward is shooting 61.2% (63-103) from the field, a mark that ranks 10th in the nation. Junior guard Christina Foggie is right behind her, posting 14.8 points per outing. The Preseason First Team All-SEC selection is fourth in the conference in three-point shooting at 34.7% (26-75). Also averaging double figures is Jasmine Lister. The junior guard is averaging 12.0 points per outing and 5.7 assists per game, a mark that is second in the SEC. Expected to join that trio in Sunday’s starting line-up are senior guard Elan Brown (6.7 ppg/1.9 spg) and sophomore guard Kady Schrann (7.4 ppg/1.6 apg). Off the bench, Head Coach Melanie Balcomb will look to freshman forwards Heather Bowe (4.5 ppg/4.4 apg) and Kendall Shaw (3.6 ppg/2.7 apg) and senior guard Gabby Smith (3.3 ppg/1.8 rpg).
Scouting The Cougars
First-year Head Coach Natasha Adair’s College of Charleston team (4-4, 2-0 SoCon) will be taking the court for the first time since Dec. 3 when they visit Vanderbilt. Latisha Harris is the team’s leading scorer at 15.3 points per game, including 23 in the Cougars’ last outing, an 88-61 win over UNC Greensboro. Harris also pulls down a team-best 9.0 rebounds per game. Alyssa Frye is next in scoring, posting 12.6 per outing, while Afreyea Tolbert averages 7.9 points per game. Jillian Brown leads the team in assists at 6.5 per contest.
The Series – Vanderbilt vs. College of Charleston
This is the first meeting between Vanderbilt and the College of Charleston in women’s basketball.
On Deck – Southern Cal
After the players spend a few days with their families over the Christmas holiday, Vanderbilt will return to action on Saturday, December 29, when they travel to Southern Cal (3-5). Tipoff at USC’s Galen Center is set for 4:00 p.m. CT.
