GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 2 Vanderbilt bowling went a perfect 4-0 on the second day of the North Carolina A&T Stallings Invitational and is currently seeded second as a team.
“It was a good day today for competition, head coach John Williamson said. “We were behind in two of the four matches and had to execute shots to get out of the hole we dug ourselves. Winning a match by one pin and in a tiebreaker was good to see. We’ve come a long way in our tiebreakers. This was our third tiebreaker in three events, and the experience was extremely beneficial. We are looking forward to our opportunity tomorrow.”
Alyssa Ballard leads the field individually following scores of 179, 243, 212, 244 and 208.
Every available Commodore saw the lanes Saturday, starting with a lineup of Isabel Allen, Ballard, Victoria Varano, Kailee Channell and Sydney Bohn.
The Dores started the day with a 966-882 win over Lewis, led by a 224 game from Bohn. In Round 2, Vanderbilt pulled out a one-pin victory over Howard. The final score was 937-936. Haley Lindley and Saphyre Nofuente came off the bench in Game 3 to contribute to the Dores’ tiebreaker win over No. 6 NCAT. Ballard bowled her best game of the day, 244 pins, in Vandy’s Round 4 win over Southern University. Paige Peters entered the lineup to aid in the 989-822 win over the Jaguars. Kaylee Hitt was subbed in during Vanderbilt’s fifth-round bye and bowled a 234 game. The day’s finale yielded the Dores’ highest pin total of the day, 1,031.
Vanderbilt will play one more traditional match versus top-seeded Jacksonville State Sunday morning at 7:25 a.m. CT to determine bracket seeding. The Commodores will stream all their matches on YouTube. Fans can follow Vanderbilt bowling on X at @VandyBowling for updates.
