>> Vandy returns to Nashville after going 1-1 at the 2024 Acrisure Classic in Palm Springs, California. The Dores opened with a 71-60 win over Arizona on Nov. 26, then dropped their first contest of the 2024-25 season with a 78-70 loss to Michigan State in the championship game on Nov. 27. Khamil Pierre was a force in Palm Springs, as she averaged 22.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 5.5 steals per game at the Acrisure Classic.

>> Vanderbilt is 29-3 at Memorial Gym vs. nonconference foes under Shea Ralph. The Commodores have won 16 straight home games against nonconference teams, a streak that dates back to the 2022-23 campaign. In total, Vandy is 40-13 against non-SEC schools in the Ralph era.

>> Freshman Mikayla Blakes enters Sunday’s contest against App State as the top-scoring freshman in all of NCAA Division I. The Somerset, New Jersey, native has scored 156 points and is averaging 19.5 points per contest, which is the top mark nationally for freshmen in both categories. Blakes’ 21 steals are also tops among NCAA Division I freshmen.

>> The Dores and the Mountaineers will challenge each other for the second time on the hardwood. The only meeting before Sunday took place on Nov. 8, 2013, where the Commodores picked up a 96-53 win over Appalachian State.

>> Sunday’s game will be the first contest of December for the Commodores. Vanderbilt concluded November with a 7-1 record and went a perfect 5-0 at home. The Commodores have won six-straight home games dating back to last season.

Dynamic Duo
Sophomore Khamil Pierre and freshman Mikayla Blakes are one of the highest-scoring pair of teammates in NCAA Division I this season. The duo is putting up 39.4 points per game between them, and they are the only pair of teammates to rank inside the top 35 nationally in points per game.

Pierre’s Streak
Sophomore Khamil Pierre enters Sunday’s game on an 11-game double-digit scoring streak dating back to last season. It is the longest double-digit scoring streak of her career, as the 6-2 forward averages 17.9 points per game during the stretch.

Still Picking Up Votes in the AP Poll
The Dores earned 21 votes in this week’s Associate Press Top 25 Poll. It marks their fourth-straight appearance in the AP poll this season.

Khamil Among the Nation’s Best
Sophomore Khamil Pierre ranks inside the top 10 nationally in four different categories entering the weekend. She is second in NCAA Division I in double-doubles (6), third in steals (28), fifth in rebounds (87), and 10th in points scored (159).

Scouting the Mountaineers
Appalachian State comes to the Music City sporting an even 3-3 overall record. The Mountaineers recently went 2-1 during a three-game homestand to even up their record.

Senior Emily Carver paces ASU at 14.3 points per game. The guard is shooting 56.9 percent from the field (33-of-58) and has made 12 3-point field goals this season. Fellow senior Mara Neira also averages double-digit points for the Mountaineers at 10.7 points per game. The 5-8 guard has hit a team-best 15 trifectas and is shooting 37.5 percent from behind the arc.

The Mountaineers average 74.0 points per game and shoot 45.8 percent from the floor. ASU is also shooting 32.6 percent from behind the arc. Defensively, Appalachian State is giving up 61.2 points per contest. Teams are shooting 34.5 percent from the floor against App State and 30.2 percent on 3-point field goals.
