Vanderbilt sophomore Courtney Zeng led the Commodores this weekend at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate this weekend in Hilton Head, S.C., carding an 11-over, 224 (73-73-78), to finish in a tie for 38th on the individual leaderboard. As a team, Vanderbilt finished 15th with a three-round score of 914 (294-302-316).
Freshman Alison Armstrong was the Commodores’ best finisher on Sunday with a third-round 77. Other Vanderbilt counters were Zeng’s 78, an 80 from senior Kate Sborov, and an 81 from junior Alexandra Farnsworth.
“We have to keep working hard and staying positive,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We had so many big numbers today. But I’m so proud of how Courtney kept fighting after her eight. She could have easily thrown in the towel, but she played her last seven holes in 2 under. We just have to learn and move on. Things happen for a reason. I believe that with all my heart.”
Alabama won the team title with an 859 (282-291-286), two shots better than second-place Duke. The Crimson Tide’s Cheyenne Knight raced to medalist honors on Sunday after posting a six-under, 65, in route to a 205 (68-72-65) for the tournament.
The Commodores return to the course March 17-19 at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Arizona.
